“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things” – Matthew 6:25-26, 31-32
LIGHT FOR NOW: Be careful what you say because you will have whatsoever that you say.
The Apostle Paul in chapter 4 of Philippians echoes a vital truth; Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God”. Paul admonishes believers facing persecution and contrary situations to pray rather than be anxious and worry. This is similar to how his other epistles are replete with instructions to pray (Romans 15:30-31; Ephesians 6:18-20; Colossians 4:2-3; 1Thessalonians 3:1-2; 1Timothy 2:8). The word “everything” in Philippians 4:6 was translated from the Greek word “pas”, which implies “all these”. It refers to specific things. Hence, the text can be better understood as; “Be careful for nothing, but in all these things, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God”. That is, it must be read within the context that it was used to understand, the things specifically spoken of by the writer. So what things was Paul referring to?
Philippians 1:28-30 “And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me”. Apparently, Paul wrote to them while they were facing persecutions. This explains why he referred to their “adversaries, sufferings (for Christ sake) and conflict”. He spoke of those things in Philippians 4. He admonished them to pray and the result of that prayer in verse 7 was that the peace of God will surpass all understanding would guard their hearts and minds through Christ. Hence, he admonished them to stand fast (verse 1), to rejoice in the Lord (verse 4) and to forbear or to be moderate. Glory!

DECLARATION: Rather than I being anxious and dwelling in worries, I give myself consistently to pray, even as my father hears me always as I pray, in Jesus Name, Amen
