GIVE NO PLACE FOR ANXIETY AND WORRIES (15)

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?”– Matthew 6:24-25

LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer must be conscious of the reality that God is his father and he is a son of God.

In conclusion of previous studies, it was established that the believer must learn to practice contentment. 1Timothy 6:6 “But godliness with contentment is great gain”. Contentment does not mean we would accept problems and negative circumstances that come our way as though they are from God. No! Contentment is praising God despite the problem or circumstance. It means whatever I have, I am going to be grateful for. It means that we will not allow circumstances to control us. Matthew 6:25-26, 31-32 “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things”.
Anxiety and worry can sometimes arise from legitimate desires and needs. Jesus however admonishes not to be need-conscious which leads to agitation and apprehension but to be father-conscious. Hence, he taught us to ask the Father whatsoever we desire in prayer (amongst other instructions), knowing that the Father knows our needs before we ask him. Matthew 6:7-8 “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him”.  Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Rather than being need-conscious, be father-conscious.

CONFESSION: I am in union with the Father; I am God’s son. I am not need-conscious but father-conscious. Therefore, I am not worried because he hears me as a son when I pray, in Jesus Name, Amen

QUOTE: The believer must develop a father-conscious mentality and not a need-conscious mentality.
