NOT UNDER THE LAW (20)

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”– Romans 3:19-24

LIGHT FOR NOW: The arrival of Christ brought an end to the works of the law.

Observe verse 16 of Galatians 2 “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified”. The works of the law do not justify men before God, rather the faith of Christ does. The giving of the law to Israel had expiration; it was to be a temporary measure until Jesus came. Galatians 3:22-26 “But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus”.
The law imputed transgression before Jesus came; the giving of the law was to show the state of men, the need for the grace and faith of God. The law preached and pointed men to faith in Christ. So the law was to hold on to them until Jesus; it showed in its condemnation the need for salvation by grace through faith in Jesus. The hold of the law expired at the arrival of Christ. A breaking away from the law made men children of God by faith, so the sons of God were no longer under the law. Our escape from the law is so great salvation in Christ Jesus. Hebrews 2:2-3 “For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him”. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: By so great salvation in Christ, the law has not hold on you. Acknowledge this.

CONFESSION: I am a son of God; I have received the grace of God in Christ, so I am not under the law but under grace, in Jesus name, Amen.

QUOTE: The hold of the law expired at the arrival of Christ.
