NOT UNDER THE LAW (11)

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”– Romans 3:19-24

LIGHT FOR NOW: Sin brought the law, then the law amplified sin.

The giving of the law brought judgment and wrath instead of unity with God that was desired. It made sin much more grievous; men are not in fear of judgment without a law. Romans 4:15 “Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression”. It made a difference in men even though they were all spiritually dead from Adam; Romans 2:3 “And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?”
Romans 2:12-16 “For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel”. Jesus is the only escape from the consequence of sin that the law judges. He is the satisfaction of the demand for justice under the law. The works of the law can not suffice because it can’t change the fallen nature of men; a new nature is only received by faith in Christ through the gospel. That’s why the law was a verbalization of the state of man; that man is helpless and in need of a savior. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Declare with your mouth what Christ has made out of you; you are righteous.

CONFESSION: I affirm with my mouth that I am the righteousness of God in Christ’ Jesus, in Jesus’ Name, Amen

QUOTE: The law is a verbalization of the state of man.
