“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”– Romans 3:19-24
LIGHT FOR NOW: We will find the clarification and understanding of the law in Christ.
The law is a communication of riddles, parables, types and shadows; it therefore lacked the understanding of those things that were said; the understanding is not in the communication itself. Psalm 78:1-3 “Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us”. He calls them dark sayings of old to explain the word “parables”. Dark sayings are riddles that need an explanation or solving. So the Old Testament needs interpretation, which is found elsewhere. Hebrews 10:1 “For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect”.
It is shadows, it couldn’t change the consciousness of people who practiced the law; the symbolic worship further darkened their understanding and paced them farther from the truth and light. 2Corinthians 3:12-14 “Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ”. In Christ, the veil is removed, this will mean in Christ is the clarification and understanding of the law. Glory!
