REDEMPTION – WAS IT COMPLETED ON THE CROSS? (4)

“But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance” – Hebrews 9:11-15

LIGHT FOR NOW: Redemption is called eternal redemption because it took our God eternal to pay that eternal price as a man which makes eternal life available for the man who believes.

So far from this study, we can deduce that redemption’s seal is in the resurrection of Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus is the crown of redemption. Jesus had to come out of the dead (the grave, the tomb) to show that the price had been paid. So the resurrection confirms the work of redemption, and it puts the final seal on what Christ has done. When he said it was finished on the cross, he was not referring to the work of redemption; he was referring to the law to the fulfillment of the law. At his resurrection, redemption was fully consummated, so he had to appear bodily as a full proof of his work. The fact that he is alive is the eternal security of our salvation; that redemption is not for some time but for all time and eternity.
Our redemption is eternal. Observe closely verse 11 and 12 of our key text: Hebrews 9:11-12 “But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us”. Hebrews 5:8-9 “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him”. These are things the believer must understand. They are not for new believers; they are essential for all believers to know. Hebrews 7:24-25 “But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them”. All of Jesus’ works explain to us that the fact that he is alive is the eternal security of our salvation. Jesus paid an eternal price to give us eternal redemption, eternal salvation, and consequently an eternal inheritance. For this reason, we have been perfected forever; this is the reality of our redemption in Christ. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: You have been perfected forever; acknowledge this.

CONFESSION: I have an eternal inheritance in Christ, having been eternally redeemed and eternally saved in Jesus’ name. Amen

QUOTE: The life the believer has received of God in redemption is called eternal life because it is eternal in nature; meaning it can not be lost.
