THE PRAYER OF FAITH (20)

“Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”. – James 5:13-16

LIGHT FOR NOW: Your knowledge of God must take its promise from the rightly divided word of truth.

The believer is indwelt by God’s spirit. He is a son of God. He has received the spirit of faith of the son of God – Jesus Christ (Galatians 2:16; Philippians 3:9). Hence, no believer lacks faith or has a believing problem. In essence, the believer does not have to work on his believing, he or she is a believer. So, what was James addressing in James 1:5-7? In verse 7, he says “… for let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord”. James was addressing knowledge problems, which was about the character of God in giving. This explains why he admonishes the man not to be double-minded about God. This lets us see how knowledge is vital in prayers, as it will influence your words in prayers and your view of God. That’s why, in the epistles, Paul’s words admonish believers to go after precise, accurate, and exact knowledge.
Philemon 1:4-6 “ I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus”. Ephesians 1:16-20 “Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places”. Let your view of God or knowledge about god be situated within the rightly divided word of truth. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: God is best known in Christ. Acknowledge this.

CONFESSION: I know God in Christ. My God is a giving God who gives liberally to all men, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

QUOTE: Your understanding of God that is not situated in the rightly divided word of truth is a misunderstanding about God.
