THE PRAYER OF FAITH (16)

“Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing Psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”. – James 5:13-16

LIGHT FOR NOW: We can speak without praying, but we can not pray without speaking.

In our last study, we were exploring Jesus’ words in Mark 11 in order to bring to the fore what the prayer of faith is; Mark 11:23-24 “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them”. Recall in the context of this account, Jesus spoke to the fig tree, and upon passing by the same fig tree after three days, Peter brought everyone’s attention to the fig tree (Mark 11:14, 21). Jesus’ response is very crucial; hear his response: “…whosoever shall say…” “…shall not doubt…” “…but shall believe…” “…the things which he saith…” “…he shall have whatsoever he saith…” Verse 24 “…therefore…”
Therefore, what? He gave us a principle in verse 23 that becomes applicable in verse 24. Mark 11:23 “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith” Verse 24 “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them”. In other words, if you say the things in your mouth and don’t doubt, you will have what you say. Note that faith can work without prayer, but prayer can not work without faith. That means we can say or speak without praying, but we can not pray without saying or speaking. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Be a praying believer.

CONFESSION: I release my faith in prayers, and I have whatsoever that I say, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

QUOTE: Faith can work without prayer, but prayer can not work without faith.
