“Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing Psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”. – James 5:13-16
LIGHT FOR NOW: In the place of prayer, the one praying has the responsibility of receiving what he prayed for.
Having seen in previous studies that receiving is part of prayer, it then follows that receiving in prayer is different from having the requests that were prayed for. Jesus explained this in Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them”. James says in verse 13 “Let him pray if afflicted”. In verse 14 “is any sick?” let him call on the elders…” So, who prayed the prayer of faith? James 5:15 “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him”. Verse 14 “…let him call on the elders, let them pray for him…” Verse 15 “…And the prayer of faith shall save the sick…”
Recall that receiving in prayer is what James called “the prayer of faith” which is done by the recipient. The prayer of faith that is receiving in prayer is done by the recipient. A man therefore cannot receive of God’s power in:
• Unbelief
• Fear
• Doubt
• Anxiety
• Double-mindedness
Prayer is not of faith if it is done in fear, doubt, unbelief, anxiety, and double-mindedness about God’s character. The view you even have of God influences your mindset and words in prayer, which in turn will affect your receiving in prayer. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: See God in Christ.
CONFESSION: When I pray, I receive in the prayer. I do not walk in unbelief; I am a believer. I have the gift of faith; hence, I pray and I receive in prayers, in Jesus’ Name, Amen
QUOTE: Part of prayer is receiving in prayer.
