“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all”– Ephesians 1:16-23
LIGHT FOR NOW: An understanding of the believer’s authority is crucial to maximizing the reality of that authority.
In Paul’s words in our key text above, verse 19 is the greatest concentration of adjectives used of the description of God’s power. Certain words are used to describe this power:
• Exceeding
• Greatness
• Power
• Working
• Mighty power
The word “exceeding” means to throw beyond target. It is used in the following texts: 1 Corinthians 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:14; Ephesians 2:7. The word “greatness” was only used once in the New Testament books of the bible; in Ephesians 1:19, it describes magnitude. The word “power” means strength. It is also used in Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 1:18 and Ephesians 3:20. The word “working” implies efficiency, which is effective and working. It is also used in Ephesians 3:7 and Ephesians 4:16.
The word “mighty” means ability and strength. It was also used in Mark 12:30 and 1 Peter 4:11. The second use of the word “power” in that text means dominion and vigor. It was used in Ephesians 6:10 and Colossians 1:11. The question is: Where was that power demonstrated? Ephesians 1:20-21 “Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come”. It was demonstrated in Christ. His feet in context are the church; his body. The believer (the church) is the house of God’s power right now. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Maximize your realities.
CONFESSION: I have God’s resurrection power now; I am in authority, in Jesus’ Name, Amen
QUOTE: The believers’ authority was given because it will be needed.
