THE LAW OF FAITH (2)

“And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve. And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.” – Mark 11:11-14

LIGHT FOR NOW: The end result of the faith of Christ is that you will have whatsoever that you say.

The faith of Christ is operational in the believer at new birth. Jesus makes a crucial statement about this faith in Mark 11:22 “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God”. The original Greek says “have the faith of God…” which is either the faith that God gives; the faith that God has. To understand Mark 11:22 better, let’s observe the other synoptic: Matthew 21:21 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done”. Matthew’s account says “If you have faith…” Mark’s account says “have the faith of God” or “have the faith that God gives”. Observe that he is not telling them to go and get faith. Rather, he is describing how faith works, the work of faith; he was pointing out what the faults of God can do. The word “have” means to possess, to hold on to something, that which you own.

Thus, Jesus meant “If you hold on to the faith that God gives…” that is, if this faith becomes your possession. He then says “…whosoever shall say to this mountain…” The “whosoever” therefore, is not an open-ended statement; rather whosoever has/possess the faith of God, there is the man that has the faith of God. This also further makes it clear that Jesus was not teaching a formula, else he would not have included that faith as being of God; he is referring to a people specific, the man who has believed the gospel, describing how that faith he possesses works. When the faith of Christ is at work, what is the end result? You shall have whatsoever you say. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Say what God’s power can do.

DECLARATION: I have the faith of Christ. It is my possession, I put my faith to work, and I have what I say, in Jesus’ Name, Amen

QUOTE: Give voice to God’s word in your words and see the word work wonders in your life.
