“And God is able to make all grace abound towards you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: His righteousness remaineth for ever. Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness)” – 2 Corinth 9:8-10
LIGHT FOR NOW: Dedication and consecration is the watchword in the culture of giving.
God gives:
• Bread for your food
• Seed to sow
God gives us firstly:
• For ourselves and then;
• For others
He gives us so that we can have that we may give to others also. God’s channel of blessing is through men. Wealth is in the earth, and the way it moves from one person to the other is by giving. Prosperity in the kingdom of God is seen when a man gives, not when he has. A man gives glory to God in his giving and not in the accumulation of wealth. We give from what we have received of God; we give as God has prospered us. God meets the needs of believers by giving up other believers. Giving for the believer is primarily for saints who do not have in the local church. We are not to neglect the needs of the saints and go about giving to poor people on the street or getting involved with philanthropic activities to the world. We are blessed so that we can be a blessing. We receive it so we can give.
Therefore, giving is a priority for a believer. When he gives, he is showing that he has received from God and he has nothing of his own. Again, a heart that is not consecrated can not give.
The key to the giving nature finding expression in your conduct naturally lies in your consecration or dedication to the service of God. That’s why verse 5 of 2Corinthians 8 says; “And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God”. Notice, the first gave their own selves to the Lord; that is consecration and dedication. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Manifest your giving nature in your Christian walk.
CONFESSION: God gives me bread for food and seeds to sow, I sow seeds of honor and grace as I give, in Jesus’ Name, Amen
QUOTE: When consecration is out of the picture, giving becomes torture.
