GIVING IS HONOR

“Honor the LORD with thy substance, And with the firstfruits of all thine increase” – Proverbs 3:9

LIGHT FOR NOW: We give in honor to God, and our giving comes before God as worship because honor is worship.

Honor is substantial, you cannot honor without your substance. You give to persons and situations that you honor. Under the law, there were different forms of giving. There were the first fruits where people gave the first of their increase, whether farm produce or flocks to the Lord. There was also the tithe in which ten percent of what people possess will be taken to the temple to give to the priest.

In the different systems of giving seen under the law, one thing is seen – HONOR. The practice of giving under the law is not wrong, but the only thing that differs today is that no one is compelled to give a percentage of their income. Each man will voluntarily choose to give of what he owns.

The key thing about giving is the honor factor; to treat as sacred and special. So, we give in honor; honor is worship; our giving is worship to God. Giving should excite anyone born again because it is an opportunity to show that you have been prospered by God. It is also an opportunity to show respect and trust in God who gave you all you have.

Observe 2 Corinthians 8:1-5 in the Passion Translation; “Beloved ones, we must tell you about the grace God poured out upon the churches of Macedonia. For even during a season of severe difficulty, tremendous suffering, and extreme poverty, their super-abundant joy overflowed into an act of extravagant generosity. For I can verify that they spontaneously gave, not only according to their means but far beyond what they could afford. They actually begged us for the privilege of sharing in this ministry of giving to God’s holy people who are living in poverty. They exceeded our expectations by first dedicating themselves fully to the Lord and then to us, according to God’s pleasure”. This church here were super abundant in joy as they gave extravagantly. The Passion Translation says they overflowed into an act of extravagant generosity. So, a moment to give should be a moment the believer should be excited about, rather than frown or see it as a burden. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Be excited in every opportunity you give.

CONFESSION: I give because I have been prospered by God; I honor God with my substance, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

QUOTE: Giving is worship because giving is honor and honor is worship.
