GOD’S LOVE FOR SINNERS (3)

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life– Romans 5:1-10

LIGHT FOR NOW: God does not love sin, but he doesn’t hate the sinner.

We are still looking into God’s love for sinners. Matthew 5 says he is good to all men. Matthew 20:28 “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many”. He gave his life as a ransom for sinner. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. He so loved sinners. The word “so” means he indeed loved sinners. He doesn’t love sin, but he never hates the sinner. Observe closely the words of Apostle Paul in verse 8 of our key text; “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). He died for us while we were yet sinners. 1Timothy 1:15 “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief”. Christ came into the world to save sinners.

He loved us even when we were habitual sinners, how much more now that we have come into his love. If he loved Paul who was specifically killing his sons, why can he not love terrorists, gays, swindlers? The money they spend is his, the air they breathe is his, and he has made salvation available to them free of charge. He cannot but love his church more. Since he loved me when I did not believe, how much more now that I have believed the gospel? Glory!
