“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”– John 3:16
LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer has a responsibility to personalize God’s love.
The more we focus on his love for us, the more we are able to personalize the same. We will personalize his love for us to the degree to which we behold his love for us. The Apostle John is an example of one who personalized Christ’s love for him. Observe there was no part of his letters or other gospels where Jesus categorically expressed a personal love for him. John 21:20 “Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following, which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?” This statement was made by John, not Peter or Jesus. It was a product of John’s affirmation of Christ’s love. Other references are in: John 13:23 “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved”. John 19:26 “When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!” John 21:24 “This is the disciple whichtestifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true”.
John got to that point in his meditation that he was able to personalize Christ’s love. This ought to be our disposition as well. We ought not to get drawn into self-pity based on terrible experiences or rejection from men. We are loved ultimately by the one who created all men. We are valued by God; we are of value to God. If any effort is required of us at all, it is for us to ensure that this truth remains in our consciousness. We are to avoid any information that may cause us to think otherwise. Always say to yourself that: “I am loved by God. I am valued by God. I am God’s love object. God cannot withhold his love from me. God’s unending love for me is an unending and unchanging reality in my life”. Glory!
INSTRUCTION:Personalize God’s love.
CONFESSION:I personalize God’s love for me; it reflects in my speech and thoughts about myself, in Jesus name, Amen.
QUOTE: We have a responsibility of personalizing his love in beholding his love.
