“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, and watching hereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”– Ephesians 6:18
LIGHT FOR NOW: As those born of the spirit, we have a language of the spirit; it is called tongues.
In our previous study, we had begun a journey on the supernatural. The supernatural and the miraculous are for the believer. The twelfth to the fourteenth chapters of 1Corinthians speaks of several supernatural topics such as:
- Gifts of the spirit
- Ministries
- Body of Christ, the church
- Love
- Diversities of tongues
- Tongues as a prayer language
- Prophecy
- Tongues and Prophecy in church service.
1Corinthians 12:1 “Now concerning spiritual gifts brethren, I would not have you ignorant”. In 1Corinthians 12:10, Paul declares “…to another divers kinds of tongues…” The Weymouth rendering of this verse is, “…to another varieties of the gifts of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues”. Growing and increasing in the sharpness of the anointing will require that you spend much time praying in tongues or praying in the spirit. As we advance in this study in subsequent days, we will begin to discuss many benefits of praying in tongues. Like Paul, I thank my God I can speak in tongues on a daily and regular basis, thus partaking of the great multi-faceted benefits it renders. Remember, Satan and well-meaning but ignorant people will do their utmost to keep you away from tongues, but you must press in to these glorious gifts. Definition of prayer tongues are:
- Tongues are a supernatural utterance by the Holy Spirit in a language never learned by the person doing the speaking or praying.
- Tongues are the language of the supernatural realm just like French is the language of France.
If you want to be effective and be understood in France, then you should know how to speak in French because that is what the language they speak. Similarly, there is a part of the world called the world of the spirit; and to be effective in the world of the spirit, you cannot neglect praying in the spirit. If we want to be effective in the supernatural realm, then we have to become acquainted with the supernatural language of tongues. Glory!
