“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, and watching hereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”– Ephesians 6:18
LIGHT FOR NOW: To maintain a constant and consistent prayer life as the epistles instruct, pray more in the Holy Ghost (in tongues).
The Apostle Paul while bringing his epistles to the church at Thessalonians to the end gave an instruction to them to pray without ceasing; that is, pray without stopping (1Thessalonians 5:17). In essence, they were to pray without letting go of the very lifestyle itself. That is, they were to continue in prayer, as prayer is a constant for believers. The living bible renders 1Thessalonians 5:17 this way “Always keep on praying”. Prayer thus is an important aspect of the Christian life, and we are told to pray constantly. How then can this be achieved? That is, how do we pray without ceasing? Our key text (Ephesians 6:18) answers the “how to pray without ceasing”. Observe how the following translations below render Ephesians 6:18.
“Pray passionately in the spirit…”(TPT).“Pray at all times (on every occasion in every season) in the spirit…”(Ephesians 6:18 AMPC).“And pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request…”(Ephesians 6:18 NIV).“Pray in the spirit at all times and on every occasion…”(NLT).Paul is giving us a powerful key on how we can maintain a consistent and constant prayer life; how we can keep on praying without letting up. He says to pray always in the spirit, which we have explained to be synonymous to praying in tongues or praying in the Holy Ghost. In Paul’s letter to the Corinthians church, he equally teaches this concept.
1Corinthians 14:2 “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; how be it in the spirit he speaketh mysteries”. 1Corinthians 14:15 “What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also”. So, there is prayer in the spirit and there is prayer in your understanding. Whereas praying in your understanding is limited to human vocabulary, praying in the spirit transcends human vocabulary and understanding. Glory!
INSTRUCTION:Pray more in tongues.
CONFESSION:I am prayer motivated, even as I pray more in the Holy Ghost, in Jesus name, Amen.
QUOTE: In prayers, human vocabulary can have limitations but spirit vocabulary (tongues) has no limitation.
