LIGHT FOR NOW: When you pray in tongues, you allow God’s spirit within you find expression through you using his words and not your words.
At new birth, a man is born of the spirit; being born of the spirit is operative or a reality by the indwelling of the spirit. Jesus in John 3 has this to say; “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, Verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the spirit is spirit” (John 3:3, 6). The word “born again” here was translated from the Greek word “gennao anothen”; it implies to be born of the spirit or to be born from above (that is, to be born of God). So, the born again experience is a spiritual experience. The new birth is a spiritual birth. Born again is by the spirit. The spirit in the believer is the agency of the new birth. So, the indwelling of the spirit is the new birth. Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise”. So, the saved man is the one sealed with the Holy Ghost.
Romans 8:14-15 “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father”. So, the new birth is by the spirit; praying in the spirit will be by the spirit within the believer. The believer cannot pray in the spirit outside the spirit within. Tongues is a spirit language spoken by a man who is born of the spirit. So, this language is in the spirit, a man that is not born of the spirit cannot pray in the spirit. It thus follows that every believer; every man born of the spirit has the potential to pray in the spirit; that spirit within the born again man is his potential to praying in the spirit. Hence, not praying in the spirit as a believer is not making use of your potential in Christ which is equivalent to robbing yourself of your potentials and realities in Christ. Pray always in the spirit. Glory!
