“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost”– Jude 1:20
LIGHT FOR NOW:There is no one that has received a salvation more special than the other, salvation is salvation.
The opening words of Jude’s letter carries the answer to what he meant in our key text above; Jude 1:1-3 “Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints”. The word “common” here was translated from the Greek word “koinos”; it’s a word that speaks of something that is available to all without any extra qualifications. Think of something that is available to all; it is not exclusive or special. He calls it the faith and makes a call for its defense. It implies what is general; that is, what is not special. In the book of Acts, that word “common” was used; Acts 10:14-15 “But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common”.
“Koinos” (common or unclean) was used in Peter’s vision. It is negatively used here to refer to what is unclean. Acts 2:44 “And all that believed were together, and had all things in common”. The expression “had all things in common” meant that nobody was treated specially. Everyone was treated alike. Acts 4:32 “And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common”. What we see again is that people used things belonging to other people; those belongings were not treated as special. Therefore in Jude 3, Jude was teaching that no one differs in what we have. What we have is the same as touching salvation. Glory!
