PRAYING ALWAYS (1)

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, and watching hereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints” – Ephesians 6:18

LIGHT FOR NOW: Prayers in the scripture are constant; the scriptures are full with instruction on consistent prayers. Hence, prayer is the believer’s lifestyle.

Notice what Apostle Paul says with respect to prayers in our above text. He says “Praying always”. In essence, prayer is meant to be always. Prayer has a time frame, and the time frame of prayer is no time frame; hence, Paul says always. How often should the believer pray? The answer is always. That is why, as you read through the New Testament books of the bible, you will discover these terms below with respect to prayer:
• Continued
• Without ceasing
• In everything
• Always often
• Departed not, etc

These associated terms above used in reference to prayer carry a sense of persistence in the activity, one that is done without letting up. Let’s see the usage of these associated terms in prayer and bring out in detail what these terms emphasize on prayer. Acts 1:14 “These all continued in one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brethren”. Luke 21:36 “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and stand before the son of man”. Colossians 4:2 “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving”. Romans 12:12 “Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer”. Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God”.

These terms or phrases “continue”, “continuing instant”, “always (praising always), “continue in” used in the four gospels, book of Acts and in the epistles of Paul are the subject of prayer. Paul is letting us see that prayer and see that prayer ought to be the lifestyle of the believer. Paul in 1Thessalonians 5:17 says “Pray without ceasing”. So, there is no time in the life of a believer where he should cease to pray. The believer ought to be given to prayer daily. You are to be given to prayer daily. Therefore, prayer is constant. Glory!
