“By this we come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand) that we abide (live and remain) in Him and He in us: because He has given (imparted) to us of His [Holy] Spirit. And [besides] we ourselves have seen (have deliberately and steadfastly contemplated) and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son [as the] Savior of the world. Anyone who confesses (acknowledges, owns) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides (lives, makes His home) in him and he [abides, lives, makes his home] in God. And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience) and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us. God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God, and God dwells and continues in him. In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world” – 1John 4:13-17 (AMPC)
LIGHT FOR NOW: The word of God is a living, moving, and walking reality.
The word of God is reality. The word of God is not a set of facts that need to be proven. In the synoptic of John, the writer says “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God” (John 1:1-2). That is instructive. Notice that in verses 1 and 2 of John, the emphasis and context is on the “word”. He uses the word “word” three times in verse 1. Thus, when he says in verse 2 “The same was in the beginning with God”; the word “the same” there refers to the word in context as the pretext reveals that. Hence, verse 2 can be re-read as: “The word was in the beginning with God”.
Verse 3 will now make everything clear. “All things were made by HIM; and without HIM was not anything made that was made” (John 1:3). The word is a HIM, that is, a personality. In essence, John confers a personality on the word by his usage of the pronoun “him” to replace the word “word”. So, the “word” that John is discussing in John 1 is a living, walking being. John is talking about the living word who is the person of Jesus. Observe verse 4 “In him was life; and the light was the light of men” (John 1:4). In him who? The word. The word who? Jesus Christ. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Be full of the word.
CONFESSION: I am set afresh for the word like never before, in Jesus’ Name, Amen
QUOTE: Jesus is the living word contained in the written word as God’s never changing word.
