“Do all things without grumbling and faultfinding and complaining [against God] and questioning and doubting [among yourselves], That you may show yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked and wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse], among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world” – Philippians 2:14-15 (AMPC)
LIGHT FOR NOW: No matter the season of your life, you have every reason to give God thanks in all seasons.
When the cares of life seem overwhelming, the scriptures teach to pray and give thanks. We aren’t thanking or giving thanks for evil. Rather, prayer changes things and giving thanks affirms the integrity of God’s word in every situation. We give thanks because God’s word is true, and this causes joy and rejoicing. Let’s begin to explore some reasons we give thanks or reasons to be thankful. In chapter 1 of Colossians, Paul had this to say; “Giving thanks to the Father, Who has qualified and made us fit to share the portion which is the inheritance of the saints (God’s holy people) in the Light. [The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, In Whom we have our redemption through His blood, [which means] the forgiveness of our sins”. From this text, we see that we give thanks for the following reasons:
• God qualified us and made us fit to share the portion, which is the inheritance of the saints;
• The Father delivered us out of the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his dear son. So, the power of darkness has no control over us because we are no longer under its regime or power.
• We have redemption through his blood, which is the forgiveness of sins – so, we give thanks.
These spiritual realities highlighted in this text by Paul are reasons to give God thanks. The power of darkness has no hold on us any longer because we are in the kingdom of light, which is that of Christ. So, Colossians 1:12-14 shows us a reason to be grateful to God. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: You have reasons to give God thanks. Thank Him!
CONFESSION: I thank you, Lord, for the forgiveness of sins made available by the redemptive price you paid, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
QUOTE: There is every reason to thank God in every season of your life no matter what that season brings.
