“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost”. – Act 2:38.
LIGHT FOR NOW: You are in union with Christ
Peter preaches that receiving the remission of sins is the giving of the spirit. He uses the word “gift” which is an honor bestowed on the receiver. One of the major works of the spirit is to cause men to believe that he is glorified, and when your heart accepts and believes, it causes an excitement that propels you to tell another person. The redemptive work of Christ brought the spirit to a fallen man, and that spirit identifies a man with God.
God and man are in a union through the spirit and glory to God that spirit abides forever. The word “spirit” is translated in the Greek word “pneuma” and was often used in the same context with God and the believer; let’s look at some scriptures.
Romans 7:6 “But now we are delivered from the law, that eing dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in the newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter”. Newness of the spirit is talking about the state of the believer. Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit”. Emphasis on walk after the spirit, talking about the believer’s nature. In essence, the spirit of God resides in the believer and teaches and enables him to understand the things of God. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Walk after the spirit
