SALVATION: GOD’S FINISHED WORK (21)

“For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: in whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ”. – Colossians 2:9-10

LIGHT FOR NOW: You and Christ are one

The spirit in the believer is the spirit of Christ in his glorified state; the believer and God are the same identity. 1 Corinthians 6:12 “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any”.

Therefore, the believers’ conduct will be a by-product of the spirit in the believer. This means what a man has in his spirit determines his operations. John 3:3-8 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel, not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit”.

Ezekiel equally prophesied concerning how the new man will operate, he speaks prophetically about the conduct of the believer and that he will function according to the spirit that dwells in him. “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them” (Ezekiel 36:26-27). Now, let us break it down – In verse 26, the word “new” is the Hebrew word “chadash”; it means a new kind. This was also used in Ezekiel 18:31 “Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?” The word “new” refers to something that has not been in existence before. So if God says I will give you a new heart, it means no one had it until the fulfillment, which is after his death, burial and resurrection.

Another word to note is the “heart” which is the Hebrew word “leb”. It means intellect, understanding, a new kind of thinking. This means the new heart God gives to the believer provides him with another way of thinking, which is different from his old pattern or thoughts about things. In conclusion, once a man is in Christ, he is given a new heart/life to start life all over again. Glory!
