SALVATION: GOD’S FINISHED WORK (18)

“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus”. – 2 Timothy 3:15

LIGHT FOR NOW: You have been redeemed.

Redemption makes it possible for man to enjoy the unmerited gift that is in God and the gift is called everlasting life; life that doesn’t end, while sin passed a death sentence on humanity, accepting the work of redemption cancels the death proclamation on mankind. Jesus, while teaching his disciples, mentions the promise of the comforter, which is the spirit.

It is worthy of note that the spirit was in the Old Testament was a promissory note but was fulfilled when Jesus rose from the dead. Ezekiel 36:26-28 “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God”. That word can also be found in Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions”.

Ezekiel emphasizes that the spirit will be in a believer. The Old Testament prophets functioned with that spirit, but it wasn’t a gift. In John 14:16-17 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you”. Note, in verse 16, Jesus is the one making the request because he is the “redeemer” and he uses the word “give” which oftentimes need to be qualified because giving is relative but in verse 17, he uses the word “be in you” which means he was talking about something permanent. 1 Peter 1:9-12 “Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into”. That means in his resurrection, men will receive the spirit as a gift, and that gift will be in them forever. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: You have the gift, exercise it!

CONFESSION: I declare that God’s word is the final authority in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen
