SALVATION: GOD’S FINISHED WORK (7)

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus”. – 2 Timothy 3:15

LIGHT FOR NOW: Our report is Christ.

The work of Christ, which is salvation, is not the study of what we have done or will do but what the Savior has done for us. It is important to note according to Luke 24: 25 -27 “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”. He, Jesus, taught after his resurrection.

This is why the prophet Isaiah used a collective pronoun “our” in describing the messages of all the prophets; “Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him” (Isaiah 53:1-2). He says that the message was meant to be believed and went further to qualify the message as being a personality and a person.

The understanding of the scriptures comes by knowing the message of the scriptures, which is Christ. John 5:39 “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they which testify of me”. The promise of salvation was done in the Old Testament, which is the Greek word “musterion” meaning mysteries (what should be explained). Ephesians 5:32 breaks down the mystery for us; “This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”

In essence, Apostle Paul was given the grace to preach and reveal the riches and mysteries of Christ from the Old Testament. He was tasked to shine the light and reveal what was hidden in the scriptures for our learning.
