LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s sovereignty is restricted to salvation.
John 1:1 says In the beginning was the word and the word was with God, and the word was God. This scripture expounds on God’s sovereignty, which means God is independent of time or control. Since he is before time, he doesn’t take action in time. He takes before that action will reflect in time. It is important to note that God foreknows before anything takes place. This means his time, pre-existence, and fore-knowledge all attribute to his ability as a sovereign being. However, his pre-existence and fore-knowledge are for salvation. This means God’s sovereignty can only be seen within the framework of salvation.
So, it will be quite hasty for us to draw into the conclusion that because God is sovereign, it means he can do anything. This would imply attributing all the evil done in this world to him or blaming him for the wrong course of our lives. Genesis 1:31 says “And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold it was very good”. Emphasis on “it was very good” which means that God didn’t create anything evil, but good.
Exodus 3:14 says And God said unto Moses, I Am That I am : and he said, thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I am hath sent me unto you God tells Moses that he is the I am, which depicts sovereignty. God is saying to you today that I am whatever you want me to be to you within the framework of salvation. Glory!
