LIGHT FOR NOW: The inward witness is not formed from an opinion that we have.
Having seen what the inward witness is in previous study, let’s now investigate into what the inward witness is not. To begin, the inward witness is not formed from an opinion that we have. It is not the same thing as being taught and meditating.
Hence, it is not from an existing set of knowledge. It also does not bring fear to you because fear paralyzes. Romans 8:15 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received this spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba Father”. The word “fear” here refers to the word “terror”. That is not the spirit we have received. 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of sound mind”. The word “fear” means timidity. Hence, whether timidity or terror, it’s not in our spirit.
1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love”. A believer must never anticipate evil. Fear is an expectation of evil, an expectation of things to go wrong. If I have an expectation of things to go wrong, I stand in the way of properly receiving or preserving what God is saying. So I must deal with fear. I can’t listen to God and be in fear at the same time because there is no leading of the spirit that does not have natural circumstances that negate what God has said. So, I must deal with fear! Glory!
