“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit with you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them”. – Ezekiel 36:25-27
LIGHT FOR NOW: There is a primary way God leads his children. It is through the inward witness.
We must be in mind at this point in this study that in understanding the leading of the spirit, we must also understand the inward witness. As we have earlier seen, the leading of the spirit is automatic for the believer. He is always led of the spirit. This is a result of his faith in Christ. This direction is done by God personally, hence the inward witness. Our discussions on the inward witness relate to following God’s plan in the nitty-gritty; the specifics.
It further relates to how to make vital decisions because the believer is always faced with decision making. Some of these decisions are so vital such that they could go a long way to influence his life. The inward witness has to do with an inward impression. It is the witness of the spirit that either endorses or refutes a fact exposed to it.
We always expect that God’s leading is a spectacular experience; however, God does not lead primarily like that. This occurrence in 1Kings 19 is typical of how some live their lives expecting the spectacular. The spectacular, sometimes, could be a hindrance to receiving the supernatural.
1 Kings 19:11-12 “And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; [but] the LORD [was] not in the wind: and after the wind and earthquake; [but] the LORD [was] not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; [but] the LORD [was] not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice”. The primary way God leads His sons is by the inward witness, and proper bible study will let us see that is the most common. Glory!
