THE LEADING OF THE SPIRIT (19)

“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit with you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them”. – Ezekiel 36:25-27

LIGHT FOR NOW: You must always learn to subject your experiences to the authority of scriptures. Your experiences are not higher than the truth of God’s word; the truth of God’s word is higher than experiences.

Still on the leading of the spirit, let’s look at experiences versus the written word. If God is responsible for leading us, then we need to know a few things about him. They are some key things about him. Most people have learned to know God by experiences – they use their experiences as the parameters in the deduction of the personality of God. Hence, their knowledge of God is mixed with their faith, their unbelief, their love, hate, carnality, spirituality and other things; certainly this is not good as a person may not be able to pick out God’s will like this. You just have experiences; the written word must be put above experiences.

In understanding the leading of God’s spirit, the first and most primary thing a believer must know when it comes to God’s leading is that he does not lead outside the written word. God’s mind is already contained in the written word; hence, a believer’s attitude and knowledge of the written word is basically how much of God’s leading he will follow.

The degree to which you appreciate the written word of God is the degree to which you will follow God’s leading. A leading that is from God and of God will not contradict the written word. A leading that is from God’s spirit will not contradict the written word because the written word was inspired by God’s spirit. So God, by his spirit, leads with the instrumentality of his word. God’s leading or the leading of the spirit is not in negligence of God’s word.

His leading is in sync with his word. So, how much of God’s word you know is a vital tool and ingredient in following the leading of the spirit. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Be full of the word.

CONFESSION: Now more than ever, I feed on God’s word daily, in Jesus’ name. Amen

QUOTE: God by his spirit leads with the instrumentality of his word.
