THE LEADING OF THE SPIRIT (16)

“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit with you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them”. – Ezekiel 36:25-27

LIGHT FOR NOW: The key to the transformation of your mind as a believer is the renewing of your mind with the matching of God’s word.

In our last study, we began looking into the role of the mind in the leading of the spirit. It must be an established fact that the mind has a role to play in the leading of the spirit. Recall, it is in the mind of man that his behavioral patterns are formed. Also, the mind of man is that which walks in the spirit. In Proverbs 4:23, the writer echoes, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”.

So, your heart must be guarded. Paul has this to say in Romans 12:1-2, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”.

This means that a believer can be conformed to this world. If he does not want to be conformed to this world, he will have to renew his mind. This means you will remold your thoughts, philosophies, information, principles, policies, systems, and theories in your mind and align it with God’s word. The word “conformed” implies an adaptation to an environment that is not yours or that you were not born into. We are born of God. 1 John 5:1 “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and everyone that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him”.

When you act otherwise, you are conforming yourself. Some of us force ourselves to be like unbelievers. Paul says to be transformed. Paul asks that you are to renew your mind. Reading Paul’s words in the negative will go thus “If you will not recognize the will of God, or renew your mind and be transformed, you will be conformed”. Many times, what we have a problem with is not God’s will but the fact that we do not recognize it. We don’t recognize it because we are not renewing our minds. You must renew your mind. Glory!
