“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit with you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them”. – Ezekiel 36:25-27
LIGHT FOR NOW: The leading of the spirit is God’s commitment to the believer by the indwelling of the spirit.
Observe that the prophecies under the Old Covenant concerning leading (especially our key text above) contained phrases such as:
- “I will”
- “My spirit”
- “My statute”
- “My judgment”
It shows that this commitment or promise of God’s leading and guidance is what God would do personally. God does not use an intermediary or medium to relate with us rather his leading is what he does personally. The essence of this is that God will put his spirit within man and because of this, man will naturally walk in his statutes. In other words, God will lead and guide man by his spirit indwelling him! This prophecy of Ezekiel relates to the believer. The believer is indwelt by the spirit, hence he is guided and directed by God. No believer lacks this. We see a vital thought in Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them”.
By saying “before ordained”, it is not the same as “predetermined”. It means to make ready in advance. It is not to determine. It is like someone clearing a bush path for a third party. He simply gives you a path for you to follow. It implies to “fore desire”. God has prepared a plan; a way for us that we should walk in it. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Be full of your realities!
CONFESSION: I walk in God’s plan for my life, in Jesus name, Amen.
QUOTE: It is easy to walk in God’s plan by the leading of the spirit.
