LIGHT FOR NOW: To build spiritual alertness and sensitivity as a believer, then the place of prayer and the study of God’s word should be your engine room for that.
The believer in Christ had long left the path of confusion, he has direction. This means that the believer is never without what to do and how to do it. A believer therefore is in identity crisis if he constantly confesses “I am confused… I don’t know what to do… it seems there is no way out…” Such confessions should not be in the believers’ vocabulary. We are in Him. Direction is our inheritance in Christ. We don’t pray for direction, it is ours. We however, only pray to know it or recognize it; that is, to see it and walk in it. This is why it is an error for a believer to walk out of his house and ends up dying on the road by accident; that’s error! But this misfortune has happened to some believers because they’ve not built spiritual sensitivity in the place:
- Fellowshipping with God in the study of his word – that is studying God’s word.
- Fellowshipping or communicating with God in the place of prayers – that is, praying.
These two (prayers and the word) is how you build spiritual alertness and sensitivity. It is how you get sensitive to hear what the spirit is saying and discerning the spirit’s voice at all times. The problem really is not whether God is always speaking to us because He is, but the problem is, are we listening?
If many had listened and recognized God’s leading, they wouldn’t have ended up by accident on the road, they would not have made choices that destroyed their lives. Don’t take prayer as a joke. Don’t take the study of God’s word as a joke. You will definitely find difficulty in identifying God’s direction and following the leading of the spirit if prayerlessness and wordlessness is the state of your life as a believer. Build spiritual sensitivity and spiritual alertness in the place of prayer and the study of God’s word, and it will be easy to identify and follow the direction of God’s spirit. Glory!
