LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer is a child of light because he has the DNA of light by virtue of being begotten by the father of lights!
It was established conclusively in our previous study that the believer is light. Ephesians 5:8-9 “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. For the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth”. This shows that the believer is now light in him. The originals of verse 9 is rendered “fruit of the light”. We have the fruit of the light. Colossians 1:13 “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son”. We have been delivered from darkness and translated into the kingdom of sons which shows that we have taken the identity of our new nation/kingdom (the kingdom of light). It’s a kingdom of sons and we are the sons, since a nation is made up of its citizens.
In 1Peter 2:9, Apostles Peter says “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”. Peter calls it marvelous – this means full of wonders, miracles. Apostle John in his epistle has this to say; “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all” (1John 1:5). John helps us see a fundamental fact about God here, there’s no darkness in him at all. He is only light. This must certainly be seen in his offspring. Let’s hear Apostle James; “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures” (James 1:17-18). He calls God the father of lights and says that God who is the father of lights begat us of his own will. It thus follows that the offsprings of the father of lights will be children of light. So, we are children of light. Glory!
