THE LEADING OF THE SPIRIT (3)

“O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps”. – Jeremiah 10:23

LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer in Christ has long left the path of confusion, his steps are ordered by the Lord.

We saw God’s commitment to always leading us in our previous study, as David echoes this in Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye”. God’s word is God’s bond. God says what he means, and he means what he says. So, if he says that he is committed to guiding us, then he means it.

Look closely into Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way”. Observe the word “good” in Psalm 37:23 is not in original manuscript. Hence, it is italicized. However, when you read in context, you will discover the man he was talking about; he was talking about the righteous which refers to the believers; “I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread” (Psalm 37:25). The steps of the righteous or the steps of the man who has believed in Jesus are ordered by the Lord. Again, this is God’s commitment to ordering your steps, that is, guiding, directing, and leading you.

Take note of that word “ordered” in Psalm 37:23. That word was translated from the Hebrew word “kun” which implies to be established; to be prepared. So, God established and prepares your steps; that already shows you leading and direction. God is committed to your leading. You are not the confused one, no! You know what steps to take because God orders and prepares your steps. Notice the next statement “…and he delighted in his way” (Psalm 37:23). That word “way” is from the Hebrew word “derek”; it refers to journey, direction, a course of life, or a mode of action (figuratively). In essence, God delights in your life’s journey; he delights in directing your life. He delights that your course of life and mode of action be patterned after his plans and purpose. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Constantly confess who you are!

CONFESSION: I declare that I am of the light, so I have direction, I don’t walk in confusion, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: The born-again man is not to walk in confusion. He is to walk in the right direction.
