“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”. – Romans 10:8-10
LIGHT FOR NOW: Growth in faith is equal to growth in knowledge.
In today’s study, we will consider faith as the law of the new covenant. In Galatians 3:21, Paul opens our eyes to the reason for the law of the old covenant. “…For if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness would have been by the law”. Verse 23-25 of the same chapter says “…Before faith came, we were kept under the law shut up onto the faith which should afterwards be revealed, wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ that we might be justified by faith, but after that faith is come we are no longer under the schoolmaster”. These verses clearly point us to the law of the new covenant, which is faith. For it is by grace that we all are saved through faith. That faith comes from continuous hearing and studying of the word of God. So, every believer must submit himself to be taught the undiluted word of truth.
Believers grow in faith or are strengthened in faith not passively but actively. You can’t grow in faith outside growth in the word of faith (God’s word). And you can’t grow in God’s word outside learning or being taught God’s word. And you can’t learn or be taught God’s word if you don’t present yourself to be taught. Growth in faith is growth in knowledge. Thus, in the walk of faith, the knowledge of Christ is the number one ingredient. Glory!
