“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”. – Romans 10:8-10
LIGHT FOR NOW: Salvation in Christ is the work of God.
Apostle Paul knew that the Jews would likely charge him because of His teachings. Hence, he was prepared for it. The question on the minds of the Jews was “If they could not be saved by strictly adhering to the law [old covenant], did the salvation that God provides through mans faith in Jesus Christ overthrow the law [old covenant]? Paul, however, begin an ardent preacher of the gospel turns the tables on them by reaffirming that the law upholds because it accepts the laws requirement that the act of sin be punished by death.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our lord”. When it has to do with the law of the old covenant, the punishment for a man`s sin is death. So, Jesus died on the cross to satisfy that demand on our behalf. And when we acknowledge and believe that Jesus died for us and was buried and rose for our justification, God considered the law to have been completely upheld.
Again, believers should focus on what God has done or made available to them through their faith in Jesus Christ and not what they can do because there is absolutely no code of conduct, or mood of speaking or manner of dressing that can save us.
Salvation is purely the work of God; no man can add to it or subtract from it, and what man is required to do is to only receive it. In salvation, man is the receiver, and the Savior (Christ Jesus) is the giver because he worked it out for us. So, we are only recipients of the gift of salvation made available by our Lord and Savior (Christ Jesus). Glory!
