THE EFFICACY OF PRAYER (26)

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20

LIGHT FOR NOW: Prayer for the believer is not a moment of lamentation, the believer should pray with the understanding of who he is.

Paul’s words in verse 19 of our key texts above where he uses five powerful adjectives to describe God’s power working in the believer has been our main stay for a while. These adjectives are:

  • Exceeding
  • Greatness
  • Working
  • Mighty
  • Power

We have explored these adjectives up till the word “mighty” which was translated from the Greek word “ischys” that means strength, might. That is God’s power in the believer has strength, might. The Greek word “mighty” here which means might or strength has a similar Greek word that means to be strong; force. It is what James rendered as “availeth much” in James 5:16. That is, God’s power in you is strong; it is a force that no other force can contend with. The last word to be looked at is the second usage of the word “power”; it was translated from the Greek word “kratos”; it equally speaks of might, strength or force. All these five adjectives put together describes the power of God that is at work in you.

So, it’s not just a mere exaggeration saying “You are God’s power house”, neither is it to make you feel nice but that is your present day and eternal reality as a believer at the point of salvation. The believer in the place of prayer is not expected to be begging God for answers, neither is he expected to be lamenting for God to hear, no! Inside the born again man is the totality of God’s power and it is that power that is within him that generates answers to prayers. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Don’t lament before God in prayers, pray with an understanding of your reality.

CONFESSION: Whatsoever I declare in the place of prayers, I receive it as a result, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: The believer is power packed.
