THE EFFICACY OF PRAYER (25)

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20

LIGHT FOR NOW: There’s fervency and efficiency inherent in God’s power at work in you.

Having previously got into focusing our studies on verse 19 of our key texts where Paul used the following adjectives to describe God’s power:

  • Exceeding
  • Greatness
  • Working
  • Mighty
  • Power

We’ve explored two of these adjectives which are:

  • Exceeding – which implies power that goes beyond target.
  • Greatness – power that is great in operation.

Also, we’ve seen the first usage of the word “power” which when translated from the Greek word refers to power that change and rearranges things. The next word above that describe God’s power in you is the word “working”, it was translated from the Greek word “energeia”; it means active, effective; it carries the thought of efficiency. In essence, God’s power in you is active, effective, operative and great in efficiency. Apostle James used a shade of that word “working” in James 5:16 where he says “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”. That term “effectual fervent” is the Greek word “energeo” which is a synonym of the word “energeia”; they mean the same thing.

In essence, the power of God in the believer is efficient and fervent. God’s power in you has a quality of efficiency and fervency. God’s power within you is active, effective and operative. The same Greek word “energeo” is used by Paul in Ephesians 3:20, rendered there as “worketh”. God’s power in you is fervent and efficient. Put it to work and watch out the result it produces.Glory!

INSTRUCTION:Put your prayer to work and watch out the result.

CONFESSION: Circumstances are working for my favour by the power at work in me, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: God’s power has a quality of efficiency and fervency.
