“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20
LIGHT FOR NOW: You have great power at work in you that can accomplish great things when put to work.
It’s established at the course of this study that the power at work in us which Paul says in Ephesians 3:20 is the same power he described in Ephesians 1:19 using powerful adjectives. “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20). “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believer, according to the working of his mighty power” (Ephesians 1:19). Recall the five powerful Greek adjectives are:
- Exceeding
- Greatness
- Working
- Mighty
- Power
Remember, the first word we explored which was “exceeding” (used in both Ephesians 1:19 and Ephesians 3:20) refers to God’s power having the inherent ability to go beyond target. The second word we saw which was the first usage of the word “power” (“dunamis” in Greek) refers to power that when it explodes or when it is unleashed, it changes and rearranges things. The next word to be examined is the word “greatness”. The word “greatness” here which is an adjective was translated from the Greek word “megethos” which actually implies greatness; that is, God’s power is great in operation or God’s power is great in its working. The power of God in the believer when released, put to work, set in motion or unleashed is great in its working. This power exceeds in greatness. That is the power you carry inside of you. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Start making power available in the place of prayer.
CONFESSION: I put God’s great power in me to work to accomplish great things in my life, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: The power of God that is at work in the believer exceeds in greatness.
