THE EFFICACY OF PRAYER (23)

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20

LIGHT FOR NOW: When you unleash God’s power in the place of prayer, it can change and rearrange things.

Verse 19 of our key text has been the verse we’ve been unbundling, as Paul uses five powerful Greek adjectives here to describe God’s power in operation in every believer; these adjectives are:

  • Exceeding
  • Greatness
  • Working
  • Mighty
  • Power

We’ve examined the word “exceeding” which refers to power that when unleashed has the ability to go beyond target. Having observed that the word “power” is used twice in Ephesians 1:19, the first usage of that word “power” was translated from the Greek word “dunamis” which refers to the power of God that when unleashed, it changes and rearranges things. It is from this Greek word “dunamis” that we get the English word “dynamite”. So, God’s power when in operation works like a stick of dynamite. The word “dunamis” is the same Greek word Paul used in Ephesians 3:20 when he says “according to the power (dunamis) at work in you”. Similarly, the word “exceeding” we saw in Ephesians 1:19 which refers to power that goes beyond target is the same word used in Ephesians 3:20 where Paul says “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding (“hyperballo”)…” This emphasis the fact that:

  • The power in the believer is exceeding in greatness – it can go beyond target.
  • The power in the believer can change and rearrange things; it can change and rearrange circumstances for his favour – that power works like a stick of dynamite.

That’s how potent God’s power in you is and that is why when you pray, you pray from a place of potency. Glory!

INSTRUCTION:God’s power is always available, just put it to work in the place of prayers.

CONFESSION: I am given to prayer consistently and constantly, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: God’s power is always available.
