“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20
LIGHT FOR NOW: Not praying as a believer is not making power available as a believer.
Our studies on this subject got us to pay a close attention to verse 19 which we are examining. Here in this verse, Paul uses five powerful adjectives to explain God’s power at work in the believer; the believers are:
- Exceeding’
- Greatness
- Working
- Mighty
- Power
We have closely looked at the first adjective exceeding and it is clear that it refers to power that when released, it goes beyond target; it surpasses the desired target. In essence, there is power in the believer that when unleashed, it can go beyond target. The power in you exceeds in greatness. Things are not working right in your family and you are there crying and complaining instead of making power available. Things are not going right in your life, and all you can do is pity yourself and lament before God asking him “why you?” Make power available in prayers, change and rearrange things for your good. Prayer makes power available, that is exceeding in greatness. Notice, the word “power” in Ephesians 1:19 is used twice “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe according to the working of his mighty power”.
The word “power” in the first usage was translated from the Greek word “dunamis”; it implies that God’s power when set in motion or put to work in prayers has the capacity to change and rearrange things. The power of God inside you, when you unleash it in prayers, it doesn’t matter how scattered your life is or how difficult the circumstance or situation may be, that power when unleashed has the capacity to change and rearrange things for your favour. You will be doing yourself a great disservice as a believer if you are not praying. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Quit lamenting and complaining and start praying!
CONFESSION: I declare that circumstances henceforth work in my favour by the power at work in me, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: By not praying you are not making power available.
