THE EFFICACY OF PRAYER (20)

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20

LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s power that is at work in the believer exceeds in greatness – it has the believer to exceed target.

We are focusing closely on the five powerful adjectives Paul uses in verse 19 of our key text above to describe God’s power in the believer. These five powerful adjectives are:

  • Exceeding
  • Greatness
  • Working
  • Mighty
  • Power

We began with the first adjective which is where we are presently – it’s the word “exceeding”, translated from the Greek word “hyperballo”, it refers to power that goes beyond target; power that surpasses our desires and expectations. We used an instance in previous study; we said that when this power is released towards the miracle of paying a rent, the “exceeding” here implies that instead of just paying a rent, the power adds a house – that is, it goes beyond target. That is why there is no limit to the operation of God’s power. A nobody can become somebody by the involvement of the miraculous. Someone can be taken from the backside of life to the front-side of life by the power of God.

But the question is: Are you making the power available? Are you complaining or praying? Are you there pitying yourself instead of changing and rearranging things in the place of praying? Are you there grumbling and in anxiety, doubt or fear instead of putting power to work. There is power in you that can go beyond target; just open your mouth and pray; instruct and command! The power within you exceeds in greatness. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Quit the self pity, stop the crying and start making power available in the place of prayer.

CONFESSION: I am indwelt by all of God’s power; I make it available in prayers for my good, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: The power in the believer has the ability to go beyond target.
