“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20
LIGHT FOR NOW: The power of God in the believer, when put in demonstration can go beyond target.
In earlier study, we said that the power that Paul says is at work in us in Ephesians 3:20 is the same power he explained in chapter 1, and in explaining this power, he uses the powerful adjectives. Hence, a key look into Ephesians 1:19 where we have a concentration of these five powerful adjectives is critical.“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power” (Ephesians 1:19).These five adjectives are listed below:
- Exceeding
- Greatness
- Working
- Mighty
- Power
Let’s pick up the first adjective which is the word “exceeding”. The word “exceeding” used here to describe God’s power was translated from the Greek word “hyperballo”; this Greek word is an adjective that describes God’s power that goes beyond target, that is, it means to go beyond target, to surpass, the desired target, to transcend. In essence, God’s power when put into demonstration goes beyond target; it surpasses our wildest expectations. For instance, that power was released towards the miracle of paying a rent, the “exceeding” here implies that instead of just paying a rent, the power adds a house; you become a house owner. Maybe you targeted a car, but the power when released adds a house so that you can pack your car in your house and not pack your car as a tenant in a landlord’s house. That is one of the first wonder in this power – this power goes beyond target. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: But God’s power into demonstration with this knowledge and watch the result.
CONFESSION: I put God’s power in me to work and it goes beyond target, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: When God’s power is put in motion, it goes beyond target.
