“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20
LIGHT FOR NOW: The prayer lifestyle must be the believer’s lifestyle if he must live in the power of God.
Our prayers are answered according to the power at work in us when we are filled with the understanding of the details communicated. So far in this studies, we know that there is no request that God says “no” to. So, “unanswered prayers” is a myth, it doesn’t exist. When you pray, you pray answers. There is power at work in you that when you pray, this power is put to work, to bring the desired result or expectation. So, the believer has power within him that when he prays, he puts that power to work. Prayer sets God’s power in motion to do the unthinkable and remarkable. Listen: The power that Paul says is at work in us in Ephesians 3:20 is the same power that he explains in our key text (Ephesians 1:16-20) and in his explanation in our key text, he uses five powerful adjectives to describe the power at work in us. We are going to unfold these five powerful adjectives as the study continues.
Let’s pay attention to Ephesians 1:19, because that is where we have the concentration of these five powerful adjectives that explains the power of God at work in the believer. “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power” (Ephesians 1:19). These five adjectives in these verses are:
- Exceeding
- Greatness
- Working
- Mighty
- Power
We will begin to unfold these adjectives individually in subsequent studies. Glory!
