THE EFFICACY OF PRAYER (3)

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20

LIGHT FOR NOW: The devil doesn’t work for God, neither has God employed him to work for him.

Prayer’s efficacy refers to the potency of prayers. And the word “potency” refers to ability, capacity, strength or power. So, what happens when we pray, what prayer does or what is the power of prayer or the effect of prayer is what we denote by saying the efficacy or potency of prayer. Does God answer prayer always? Many people are of the notion or mindset that we believers pass through the phase of unanswered prayers. In essence, they imply that God sometimes says “no or wait” so that you pass through certain experiences that will strengthen you in faith before he bails you out or intervenes. That is just not the word of God. Bad experiences do not build our faith. Trials and temptations are common to humanity; little wonder Paul echoes in 1Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it”.

However, the believer is taught from the epistles that these trials are to help in the faith walk, hence, James 1:2-4 says “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing”. The word “working” in verse 3 of James 1 implies to accomplish, to advice. The word “patience” here in James 1 implies steadfastness, endurance. It does not mean to get patience as explained by Paul in Galatians 5:22-23, which has been received upon salvation, but James, now explains to exercise it in the face of trials and temptations to the end that believers build character through it. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Stay with the word!

CONFESSION: I uphold to the sacredness of the scripture, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: Satan and God are not in the same company; they don’t work for each other.
