THE EFFICACY OF PRAYER (1)

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places” – Ephesians 1:16-20

LIGHT FOR NOW: The knowledge you have on prayer that is not backed up by the actual act of praying is just mental ascent.

The word “efficacy” refers to the degree of ability to produce a desired effect. So, the efficacy of prayer will refer to the ability of prayer to produce an effect. In essence, there is an ability in the place of prayer to produce a desired effect or to effect a result needed. In discussing the efficacy of prayer, we are discussing how potent prayer is or how effective prayer is. Prayer has potency. Prayer has the ability to produce an effect. Thus, it is this potency that we want to handle in this study. It is one thing to have a precise knowledge about prayer, it is another thing to pray. Having the precise knowledge about prayer is not equivalent to praying itself. The effectiveness of prayer is not just in having a mental knowledge or head knowledge about prayer, but it is in actually praying.

You can:

  • Quote all the scriptures about prayer; if you are not praying, then you are not effective.
  • Accumulate all the knowledge on the subject of prayer; if you are not praying, then you are not effective.

Believers must learn not to just have a head knowledge or mental knowledge of God’s word but rather a working knowledge of God’s word – that is, put the knowledge of God’s word to work. Don’t just know about prayer, pray! Don’t just sing about prayer, pray! The essence of the knowing is the action that follows the knowing. So, let us not just acquire knowledge, let’s put knowledge to work. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Don’t just gather the knowledge of Christ, put the gathered knowledge to work because that is where the result will be seen.

CONFESSION: I don’t just accumulate knowledge, I put knowledge to work, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: You are effective in prayers to the degree to which you pray.
