“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” – 1Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
LIGHT FOR NOW: Thanksgiving is the proof of belief.
Jesus, in his earthly ministry, was never found complaining but rather found thanking his father. This is proof of belief in the father since grumbling or complaining is a proof of unbelief and the presence of doubt. Philippians 2:14-15 affirms that.
Another account that was recorded of him thanking the father was the case of his friend Lazarus that through him thanking God rose from dead four days after he was buried. John 11:41-44 says “Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go”.
Jesus, in this verse, is teaching us to remain thankful in every situation we find ourselves because Thanksgiving can bring to life whatsoever was dead around us. In verse 39 of John 11, Martha the sister to Lazarus made a statement enough to discourage Jesus, but Jesus who understood the nature He is made of and that thanksgiving affirms the integrity of God’s word, ordered the stone of the grave to be taken away. As believers, one of the best things you should note about thankfulness is that the more you choose it, the easier it gets for you, and it ultimately gives you profound peace. The more you profess gratitude, the more you notice things to be grateful for. Glory!
