“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” – 1Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
LIGHT FOR NOW: Thanksgiving affirms God’s integrity of divine providence.
In today’s study, we will be considering the reason why believers should thank God. Colossians 1:12-14 gives an in-depth insight into the reasons why we should thank God; it reads “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”.
Based on the scripture above, the first reason why we should thank God is that we share in the inheritance of God’s people in light. This clearly without any form of doubt means that believers are qualified to partake in the inheritance the Father has made available unto us
The second reason why we should thank God is clearly stated again in Colossians 1:13 “who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son”. Verse 14 gives us the third reason why we should thank God; “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”.
So God has redeemed us from sins penalty, which includes destruction, pain, diseases, and suffering. 2Corinthians 2:14, the Amplified Version also tells us why we should show gratitude to God “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads and makes evident everywhere the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him”. This means that God has won the victory for us.
As such, he deserves our thanksgiving. John 16:33 says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world, you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world. [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding]”. Believers know this: When you got born again Jesus did not promise you a problem-free life rather he told you that there will be problem but rest assured you have the solution to those problem in you and in Christ you are more than conqueror. Glory!
