“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” – 1Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
LIGHT FOR NOW: God knows!
In our previous lesson, we established that there is absolutely no need for believers to worry or be anxious about anything because of our Heavenly father knows. Now, the word “father” means source or sustainer. So, if God, who is your source and sustainer, knows that you have needs, why do believers run away from their source to the resource? It is high time believers begin to take life softly.
Matthew 31-33 says “Therefore, take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? Or, what shall we drink? Or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”.
Believers are advised to run after God’s kingdom not to material blessings because material blessings are perishable while God’s kingdom is eternal
Verse 34 goes further to say “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof”. When the challenges of life appear or seem to be overwhelming, the Bible teaches us to pray and give thanks. We are not giving thanks for evil. Rather, prayer changes things and thanks, giving confirm the integrity of God’s character of divine providence. As seen in verse Matthew 6:32, don’t forget that your heavenly father knows. Prayer and thanksgiving is the foundation every believer should build on when faced with tribulations.
Why prayers? The answer is, prayer is potent enough to bring a man from darkness to light; prayer is putting God’s word into action, prayer is reminding God of his promise; prayer is what all believers need when they don’t know what to do anymore. Additionally, prayer is the fuel that moves a man from a bad situation to a hopeful blessing he or she has desired. The Bible, which should be every believer’s manual, is loud about prayers as it says in Luke 18:1B “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint”.
Now the question is, when faced with tough situations, what do you do? Do you complain, or you pray? Also, note that the prayer shouldn’t be a complaining prayer where you remind God of who he is and his promises, which have already been fulfilled in Christ Jesus. Add thanksgiving also to this, then sit back and watch God rearrange that situation or circumstance in your favor. Glory!
